If you’re new to the world of daiquiris or haven’t yet explored the vibrant potential of cranberries in cocktails, prepare for a delightful discovery. Many associate cranberries with autumn and winter, picturing them alongside turkey or in festive glazes. However, this frozen daiquiri recipe elegantly redefines that perception, showcasing cranberries’ incredible adaptability. The bright, tangy flavor of cranberry shines brilliantly in this drink, harmoniously complemented by the zesty kick of fresh lime juice. It’s a testament to these small, mighty berries that their appeal extends far beyond the colder months, making them an ideal candidate for your summer beverage repertoire.
Beyond their delicious taste and health benefits, there’s a fascinating fact about cranberries that many might not know: Wisconsin stands as the leading producer, supplying more than half of the world’s cranberries! It’s a remarkable contribution from a state often celebrated for its cheese and beer, highlighting the rich agricultural diversity of the region and the dedication of its cranberry growers. Knowing the origin of these berries adds another layer of appreciation to every sip of your homemade daiquiri.

The Heart of the Cocktail: Crafting Your Cranberry Simple Syrup
The secret to many truly exceptional cocktails lies in a perfectly balanced simple syrup, and this homemade cranberry version is no exception. It’s an easy yet transformative step that elevates your drink-making skills and infuses your daiquiris with an unparalleled depth of flavor. For this recipe, we’re combining just a few ingredients: water, granulated sugar, a hint of vanilla extract, and crucially, frozen cranberries. While fresh cranberries are a seasonal delight, typically found in grocery stores during the fall and winter, frozen cranberries offer the ultimate convenience. You can readily find them in the frozen foods aisle year-round, ensuring you can enjoy this refreshing daiquiri any time you desire.
Should you be fortunate enough to make this recipe when fresh cranberries are in season, they will work beautifully too. Regardless of whether you use fresh or frozen, you’ll be harnessing a wealth of nutritional goodness. Cranberries are celebrated for being an excellent source of Vitamin C and E, fiber, and powerful antioxidants, making this delicious cocktail not just a treat for your palate, but also a tiny boost for your well-being.

The Art of the Low Simmer: Infusing Flavor, Not Making Jam
To create your exquisite cranberry simple syrup, combine all the ingredients—cranberries, sugar, water, and vanilla extract—in a small saucepan. Place it over a very low heat. The key here is patience and precision. You’ll want to cook the mixture over a bare simmer for approximately 20 minutes, stirring frequently. The objective is to gently infuse the sugar and water mixture with the intense, natural flavor of the cranberries, allowing their essence to slowly meld with the syrup. It is critically important to maintain a low heat throughout this process. Boiling the mixture vigorously will cause the cranberries to break down too quickly and the pectin to activate, setting you on a course to create a cranberry jelly or sauce, rather than the light, pourable syrup we need for our daiquiris. Trust me on this – it’s a mistake I’ve learned from! The gentle simmer ensures maximum flavor extraction without altering the desired consistency.
You’ll know your simple syrup is ready when the cranberries have become noticeably soft and appear slightly wrinkled, indicating they’ve released much of their juice and flavor into the liquid. The mixture in the pot will have transformed into a slightly thickened, beautifully colored syrup. It won’t be as thin as water, but it should still be easily pourable, a testament to the perfect low-temperature infusion.

Straining for Smoothness and Perfecting Your Syrup
Once the simmering is complete and the cranberries are soft, carefully remove the pot from the heat. The next step is to strain this flavorful mixture. Pour it through a fine-mesh sieve set over a bowl or directly into a clean jar. As the liquid drains, take a spoon or a flexible spatula and gently but firmly press down on the softened cranberries. This crucial step ensures you extract every last drop of precious cranberry juice and flavor from the berries. Once you’ve pressed out all the liquid goodness, you can discard the remaining cranberry skins. And just like that, you’ve magically created your own super-quick, wonderfully aromatic, and intensely flavored cranberry simple syrup – a true game-changer for your cocktails!

With your homemade cranberry simple syrup now ready, the final step for this component is to chill it down. Transfer the syrup to a jar or airtight container and place it in the refrigerator. We certainly don’t want to blend a piping hot liquid into a frozen drink! Thankfully, this syrup chills relatively quickly; you’ll find it’s cool enough to use in about 15-20 minutes. For ultimate convenience and entertaining ease, you can even prepare this cranberry simple syrup up to a week in advance. Store it in a sealed jar in the fridge, and it will be perfectly ready whenever the craving for a refreshing cocktail strikes. This make-ahead option is a fantastic way to streamline your drink preparation, allowing you more time to relax and enjoy.

Mixing the Magic: Building Your Frozen Cranberry Daiquiri
The daiquiri is a legendary cocktail, celebrated for its refreshing simplicity and perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spirit. Traditionally, a daiquiri is crafted with just three core ingredients: rum, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup. Our Frozen Cranberry Daiquiri takes this classic foundation and elevates it with our homemade cranberry simple syrup, introducing a delightful fruity twist that’s ideal for summer. For the rum component, I personally adore the subtle warmth and sweetness that vanilla rum brings to this drink, and it’s what I typically have on hand. However, the beauty of this recipe lies in its flexibility. Feel free to use your favorite type of rum – whether that’s a classic light rum for a crisp finish, or even a subtly spiced rum if you’re feeling adventurous. The goal is to create a drink you truly enjoy.
Once you have your rum, chilled cranberry simple syrup, and freshly squeezed lime juice ready, the final step is to combine them with ice. Add all the ingredients to a robust blender. Blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth, frothy, and has reached your desired frozen consistency. This is where the magic happens, transforming individual components into a cohesive, icy delight that’s ready to impress.

Achieving Perfection: Taste, Adjust, and Enjoy
And there you have it – arguably one of the easiest, yet most impressive, cocktails you’ll ever make! Once blended, take a small taste of your frozen daiquiri. This is your moment to customize. Do you prefer it a little sweeter? Add another splash of your cranberry simple syrup. Craving more zing? A touch more freshly squeezed lime juice will do the trick. If you desire a stronger drink, incorporate a dash more rum. For those who find the cranberry’s natural tartness still a bit too prominent, a small amount of maple syrup or agave nectar can be blended in for extra sweetness. I’ve found that the specified ratio in this recipe strikes a perfect balance between tart and sweet, offering a delightful complexity. However, your palate is unique, so feel empowered to adjust to your personal preference. This recipe is wonderfully flexible and forgiving!

Once you’ve perfected the flavor and consistency, pour that gorgeous pink drink goodness into your favorite glasses. For an extra touch of elegance and visual appeal, garnish each glass with a few fresh cranberries or a thin slice of lime. Then, all that’s left to do is sip, savor, and enjoy! You’ll find yourself reaching for these incredible frozen daiquiris all summer long, not just for their stunning flavor, but also for their incredible ease of preparation. They are perfect for relaxing by the pool, hosting a backyard barbecue, or simply unwinding after a long day. With this recipe, you’re not just making a drink; you’re crafting an experience – a refreshing, cold, and utterly delicious escape.

Happy sipping, friends! May your summer be filled with delicious moments and refreshing drinks.

Frozen Cranberry Daiquiris
Rate
Ingredients
For the Cranberry Simple Syrup
- 1 cup fresh or frozen whole cranberries, *If using frozen, don’t thaw them first.
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Frozen Cranberry Daiquiris
- 6 ounces vanilla rum, Or your favorite type of rum
- 4 and 1/2 ounces of the Cranberry Simple Syrup
- 1 and 1/2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
- 2 and 1/2 cups ice cubes, (about 30 ice cubes)
Instructions
-
Make the Cranberry Simple Syrup: Add the cranberries, sugar, water, and vanilla to a medium pot over very low heat. Cook over a bare simmer, stirring frequently, for 20 minutes. The cranberries will be very soft and the liquid will be a bit thick but shouldn’t have anything close to a cranberry sauce or jelly consistency. It’s very important to keep the heat low here so you don’t overcook the mixture and turn it into cranberry sauce.
Once the 20 minutes are up, remove the pot from the heat. Strain the mixture into a jar, pressing on the softened cranberries to squeeze the last bits of juice out. Discard the cranberry skins. Pop the cranberry simple syrup in the fridge to chill (about 15-20 minutes).
-
Make the Daiquiris: Add the vanilla rum (or rum of your choice), cranberry simple syrup, lime juice, and ice to your blender. Blend until everything is combined and frothy.
-
Serve + Store: Serve immediately! Pour into glasses and garnish with skewers of fresh cranberries, if desired. This recipe makes 3 larger or 4 slightly smaller drinks as written. You can also make just 1 drink at a time using 2 ounces of rum, 1 and 1/2 ounces of the simple syrup, 1/2 ounce of lime juice, and about 10 ice cubes. Leftover cranberry simple syrup can be stored in a jar in the fridge for about 1-2 weeks.
*See note below about making these alcohol-free!
